Comment:

This broad area includes all aspects of communication and can impact on the effectiveness of almost every course. The topic includes interpersonal aspects as well as technical ones, and SoTL studies can explore not only the impact of style on cognitive issues, but also the development of classroom relationships and dynamics as a function of communications between the teacher and individuals, between the teacher and groups, or among any combinations of class members. Whether courses are traditional, innovative, asynchronous, or delivered face-to-face or at a distance, communication issues are always present, and different contextx requitre different styles. Teachers must be aware of the contextual differences and adpat to the situations they face. SoTL studies can hlep teachers to better understand their strengths and to improve performance when necessary.
