ITEM:

Technical Writing Skills

and SoTL

Definition or Description:

Technical writing is the delivery of technical information to readers (or listeners or viewers) in a manner that is adapted to their needs, level of understanding, and background.

Comment:

While some SoTL studies may involve technical writing, this would usually be with respect to specific content areas or to dissemination of study activities or results. Because such instances are infrequent, this skill will be required occasionally. However, there may be content-specific reasons or issues related to graduates' employability that would suggest the incorporation of technical writing into SoTL studies.
